Day 13 - Wednesday, April 17 - Jordan including Petra

We have been in Jordan today with visits to Petra and Wadi Rum.

Jordan is where the Edomites used to live and where the Israelites passed through at the time of the Exodus after receiving the Ten Commandments, to cross the Jordan at Jericho.

Petra's most famous structure, according to our guide, was thought for many years to have been a treasury, but it is now believed to have been a temple. One interesting fact is that the dashes on the front are exactly 365.

Wadi Rum is a large desert area with interesting rock formations that attract many tourists.

Photos:
(1-5) Petra. (6) The second time Moses ordered water to come out of a rock was nearly 40 years after the first time, and much closer to the promised land, maybe in what is now called Jordan. According to locals, that is the rock in this photo, with water still in use today to fill bottles. However, the description in Numbers 20:10, 11 talks about a "crag". (7-12) Wadi Rum, with at (8-10) a plant that our guide showed and let us smell to be quite useful as a natural soap.
